“The United States never remembers, and Mexico never forgets,” is an oft-quoted maxim about the relationship between the North American neighbors. And there is no chapter in the history of those two nations that it better describes than the Mexican–American War (known as the invasión estadounidense south of the border). In this workshop, we will take an in-depth look at a conflict that is often glossed over in U.S. history courses in spite of the fact that it sharpened sectional divisions in the antebellum United States and cost Mexico half its territory.
Speakers include UC Berkeley history professors Alex Saragoza and Brian DeLay.
