Struggles for Justice: Then and Now

The UC Berkeley History-Social Science Project is hosting a one week institute (July 13-17) for teachers, plus fall and spring follow up sessions to explore contemporary topics within a larger historical context. Speakers will address recent protests in support of Mexican immigration, the inclusion of LGBT history into the K-12 curriculum, and the historical context for the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Participants will  develop lessons, with an eye towards engaging students whose histories are often absent from grand narratives, based on primary sources selected from the Library of Congress' expansive online collection. Participants who complete the 3-part cycle of inquiry (summer institute and follow up sessions) will receive a stipend.

*Please note that a deposit check is required to register for the workshop, but the deposit will be returned to you in full at the workshop.
