In recent years, the number of unaccompanied minors – young people migrating to the United States without papers or parents – has skyrocketed. Lauren Markham's The Far Away Brothers is a deeply reported story of two identical twin brothers who escape El Salvador's violence to build new lives in California, fighting to survive, to stay, and to belong. Through a combination of readings and discussion, this event will offer insight into the current socio-political situation in Central America's Northern Triangle, its impact on migration to the United States, and the challenges that these young migrants face as they build tenuous lives in the U.S.
