In Memoriam: Tulio Halperín Donghi

Professor Tulio Halperín Donghi, world-renowned Latin American scholar and a long-time member of Berkeley's Department of History, passed away in November 2014.  

A memorial ceremony was held at Berkeley on February 6, 2015, featuring tributes from some of his colleagues and students.

In April 2014, the Center for Latin American Studies hosted a discussion with Professor Halperín to honor him for receiving the 2014 Kalman Silvert Award for lifetime achievement from the Latin American Studies Association. He discussed his work with Professors Francine Masiello, Peter Smith, Mayra Bottaro, Ruth Berins Collier and David Collier.

The panel discussion was co-sponsored by the Center for Latin American Studies, the Department of History, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, the Sidney and Margaret Ancker Chair of Spanish and Comparative Literature and the Latin American Studies Association.
