Indigenous Languages of Latin America (ILLA) Conference Fund

Open to undergraduate and graduate students in all academic fields who demonstrate academic distinction and a dedication to an Indigenous language of Latin America. 

The ILLA Fund provides up to $750 for students to present at a conference (virtual or in-person) on a topic related to Indigenous languages of Latin America during 2021.

Applications are due February 15, 2021. All travel must be complete by December 15, 2021. Award recipients will provide a brief written report describing their research and use of funds upon returning from the conference.

*Please note that as this competition is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education (ED), international travel is pending ED approval. Travel must adhere to the Fly America Act and Federal Per Diem Rates. If a student proposes to travel, it must be allowed by UC Berkeley (see Covid Travel Guidelines) and the U.S. Department of State and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 

Required application documents:

  1. Application cover sheet with the following information:
    • Your name
    • Your student ID number
    • Your academic department and degree program
    • Your expected date of graduation
    • Your area of specialization
  2. A current Curriculum Vitae
  3. A detailed Research/Study Proposal linking the specific conference with student’s larger research interests and goals (maximum 2 pages double-spaced)
  4. An estimated budget for travel or virtual registration
  5. A current unofficial academic transcript from UC Berkeley
