Elena Duran with Carlos Salmerón - "Besame Mucho"

Event Description

Elena Duran is a Chicana flutist who grew up in Oakland's Fruitvale District and later attended Mills College. She is one of the world's top instrumentalists and has recorded and performed with Paul McCartney, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, among others. Duran developed a program called "Flautas Sin Fronteras" with the goal of bringing concerts to the U.S.-Mexico border for communities with limited exposure to classical music.

Accompanied by pianist Carlos Salmerón, Elena's special UC Berkeley concert will feature some of Pedro Infante's best-loved songs with clips from his iconic movies. Duran's love for classic Mexican films stems from memorable childhood moments spent going to the Star Theater in Oakland with her grandmother.
