Mass Surveillance, Democracy, and the Open Internet in Latin America

Abstract:

For this project, I conducted a multi-sited ethnographic study to learn more about the social and ethical implications of mass surveillance abuses, democracy, social movements, and the open internet and social good. I also conducted in-depth interviews on democracy, open internet, and mass surveillance in marginalized communities. Finally, I intend to publish a policy memo with recommendations for legal and science professionals working at the intersection of science and technology, including mass surveillance technologies, the open internet, and technology policy.
