Denise Dresser, "From the Mexican Moment to the Mexican Morass"

Event Description

Dr. Dresser will explore how and why the reformist and modernizing narrative of President Enrique Peña Nieto has turned into a paralyzed, cornered government.  Peña Nieto’s administration is under attack for the massacres of Tlatalaya and Ayotzinapa, as well as ongoing accusations of conflict of interest and widespread corruption. Dresser will also analyze the future of reforms in this context and the way social protest and mobilization are changing the face of Mexican politics.

Speaker

Denise Dresser is a professor of political science at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and a columnist for the newspaper Reforma and the newsweekly Proceso.
