FILM: Remembering to Avoid Repeating

Abstract:

Filmmaker Diego Mondaca recounts the experience of creating the film “Chaco,” in an interview with Ana De Carolis translated by Deborah Meacham. Mondaca made the film to highlight the difference between the actual experience of the troops in wartime and how it has been portrayed in the combatant countries' histories. He also discusses his cinematographic choices that set the visual tone of the film, how using non-professional actors impacted the production, and what the film might say about contemporary Bolivia.
